Is There Swelling?

Do you feel a lump around your bottom?

The most common cause is a thrombosed external hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids are collections of blood vessels, so when a vessel bursts you can develop a blood clot underneath the skin. This looks like a small blue marble. Thrombosed hemorrhoids are extremely painful and a common reason for trips to the emergency room. Don’t spend an afternoon waiting to see a doctor in the ER. We will diagnose your problem and can remove the thrombosed hemorrhoid the same day in the office!

Sometimes swelling can be caused by a perianal abscess. An abscess is a pocket of pus underneath the skin. Abscesses can also be extremely painful. The treatment of an abscess is surgical drainage, not treatment with antibiotics. After examining you our doctors will decide if the abscess needs to be drained in an operating room.
